Hooked for Life: 12 Hilarious Signs Your Crochet Hobby Has Gone Too Far

Hooked for Life: 12 Hilarious Signs Your Crochet Hobby Has Gone Too Far

There’s having a hobby… and then there’s having a hobby. If your idea of a wild Friday night involves a fresh skein of yarn and a “just one more row” lie you tell yourself at 11:47pm, we need to talk. Crochet is meant to be relaxing, creative, and deeply satisfying—but somewhere between your first granny square and your fifth blanket this month, things may have… escalated.

If your home is slowly transforming into a woollen wonderland and you’ve started eyeing everyday objects wondering, “could I crochet that?”, then this light-hearted questionnaire might hit a little close to home. Don’t worry—there’s no judgement here. Just grab your hook, get comfortable, and let’s find out if your hobby has reached legendary status.

Are You Too Into Crocheting? A Totally Serious Questionnaire

Tick the ones that apply… if you dare.

Above image is me crocheting waiting for a train with my very handy crochet friendly hand bag (double zips) by Goodordering.

1. Do you find yourself choosing crochet over social plans—regularly?

☐ Yes, yarn doesn’t cancel on me

☐ No, but I do bring crochet with me… just in case

2. Is there currently more yarn in your home than food?

☐ Absolutely

☐ It’s… balanced (emotionally, not physically)

3. Have you ever said “just one more row” and then looked up to realise it’s 2am?

☐ Every night

☐ What is time, really?

4. Do you instinctively inspect strangers’ jumpers to figure out the stitch pattern?

☐ Yes, and I could replicate it

☐ I’ve taken photos for “research purposes”

5. Have you crocheted items that absolutely do not need crocheting? (e.g. plant pots, remote controls, door handles…)

☐ Yes, and I stand by it

☐ Not yet… but give me time

6. Is your “quick project” still ongoing after three weeks?

☐ Don’t attack me like this

☐ It’s evolving, alright?

7. Do your friends and family now expect crocheted gifts for every occasion?

☐ Yes, I am essentially a one-person Etsy shop

☐ They’ve stopped asking… because they know it’s coming anyway

8. Have you ever unravelled something you bought just to reuse the yarn?

☐ Waste not, want not

☐ I call it “creative recycling”

9. Do you mentally convert everything into crochet time? (“That’s at least a scarf’s worth of hours”)

☐ Constantly

☐ I didn’t realise this was unusual

10. Have you run out of storage space… and simply bought more yarn anyway?

☐ Storage is a mindset

☐ I will make storage. Out of yarn.

11. Do you feel a deep, irrational attachment to specific yarns?

☐ Yes, they each have a personality

☐ Some are too special to use (but I still buy more)

12. Have you ever paused a film just to finish a row properly?

☐ Of course—priorities

☐ I rewind more than I watch

Your Results (Highly Scientific, Obviously)

  • Mostly “Yes”: Congratulations. Crochet isn’t just your hobby—it’s your lifestyle, your identity, and possibly your interior design theme. Carry on, legend.
  • A mix: You’re in the sweet spot—still social, but one good yarn sale away from tipping over the edge.
  • Mostly “No”: Are you sure you’re doing crochet properly?
