Interior design is all the rage at the moment, but you don’t have to spend a fortune to get a unique and stylish look for your home. Here are some DIY furniture ideas that you can do for very cheap or even free. Right now when affordability is key, it’s time to get creative!
Crates
Crates are cheap utilitarian and also very stylish you can use all different kinds of crates, different shapes and sizes to come up with something modular and unique.

Tool boards
you can create your own functional tool board using standard peg board that you can buy from a hardware store.
Unique storage ideas
This storage idea below takes advantage of the height of the ceiling and the surrounding use of wood to create a vertical fruit bowl / storage concept based on baskets attached to a plank of wood. I personally love this idea and it shows that designs can really emerge from the space and materials that you have at your disposal.
Laundry bags
you can use these very cheap laundry bags to make your own sofa, if you’re not confident with making a whole Sofa, you can always make a footstool or a smaller piece of furniture. You would be very surprised at the options that you can find at your local hardware store. Check out our laundry bag range of Goodordering backpacks and panniers made from recycled nylon.
I also found inspiration in this iconic bag by designing my 'Laundrette' range of bags as you can see below. This is the roll top backpack and it symbolises everything i love and value about transitory lives and budget solutions. The range consists of nine different styles varying in size and functionality, and you can see them all HERE.
Plant pots
you can make plant pots out of almost anything, the more creative of the more interesting. Use your old cables and cords to create coils of baskets, a very relaxing and creative activity to do and also results in amazing and unique designs.
Using pipes and cans and some paint, you can make some really unique pieces that are elevated to a design level, no one would ever know that is not from an upmarket design shop.
Using found objects that you can collect from your junk drawer, make great faces for decorating cute little pots.
Homewear and furniture is a way to express your personality, so what better way to do that than to create your own unique pieces.
