Title: Embracing the Winter Wonderland: 8 Exciting Activities in Northern Sweden's Snowy Paradise

I'm on holidays at the In-laws right now, and its freezing!! i'm from australia so the cold feels about 10 times colder !! Nestled in the heart of Scandinavia, Northern Sweden transforms into a magical winter wonderland during the cold season. The pristine snow-covered landscapes offer loads of opportunities for outdoor enthusiasts and families alike. I'm trying to embrace the chill and so i have written this post presenting 8 exciting activities to make the most of the snowy splendor that i'm currently in for the next 13 days.

Northern Sweden boasts an array of ski resorts catering to various skill levels. Whether you're a seasoned skier or a novice, hitting the slopes with the family is a thrilling way to enjoy the snow. Kids can take ski lessons while parents carve through the powdery trails, creating lasting memories against the backdrop of snow-laden pines. The monochrome Goodordering backpacks, especially the yellow like seen above in the photo, are great for taking skiing, their water resistant fabric keeps your things safe and the bright colours make sure you are always visible in the bright white light.

3. **Snowshoeing for Tranquil Exploration:**

As i'm based in the suburbs of Umea, i'm embracing the tranquil beauty of Northern Sweden on snowshoes. This low-impact activity allows you to meander through snow-covered forests and serene trails. It's an ideal way for families to connect with nature and savor the peaceful ambiance that the winter landscape provides. You can also use a 'Spark' which is like a snow scooter and explore the local streets. They are made from wood and very easy to use. Most Swedish families have a few in the garage.

4. **Ice Fishing Excursions:**

For those seeking a more laid-back adventure, ice fishing is a popular pastime in Northern Sweden. Drill a hole in the frozen lakes, set up your fishing gear, and patiently wait for a catch while surrounded by the breathtaking scenery. It's a serene activity that allows for quiet contemplation amidst nature's icy beauty.

5. **Building Snow Sculptures and snow 'men'

Unleash your creative side by engaging in a friendly snow sculpture competition with the family. From classic snowmen to intricate ice castles, building structures out of snow provides a fun and artistic outlet. Encourage the kids to express themselves through snowy masterpieces, fostering creativity in the midst of the winter chill.

6. **Northern Lights Chasing:**

As darkness falls, embrace the mesmerizing spectacle of the Northern Lights. Northern Sweden's remote locations offer prime viewing spots for this natural light show. Bundle up in warm layers, bring hot cocoa, and enjoy the celestial dance in the sky—a truly enchanting experience for all ages.

7. **Snowmobiling**

For an adrenaline-packed adventure, hop on a snowmobile and explore the vast snowy expanses of Northern Sweden. Traverse frozen lakes and winding trails, experiencing the thrill of speed against the backdrop of a winter wonderland. This activity is best suited for older kids and adults seeking an exhilarating winter escapade.

8. **Ice Skating**

ice skating at a local school

You don't need an actual rink, just a frozen over school playground or lake, we went down to the local primary school where the tennis court is transformed into an ice skating / ice hockey rink during the winter. It was lots of fun and cheap and low level of commitment is required because you can just skate for a few minutes until your feet get sore and then drink hot chocolate! Pack your Goodordering market shopper and off you go !! its so handy for all picnic bits and pieces!

Conclusion:

Northern Sweden, with its snowy landscapes and winter magic, provides a huge range of diverse activities for every taste, age and fitness level. Whether you're seeking family-friendly fun or adventurous thrills, the cold weather opens up a world of possibilities. Embrace the snow, create lasting memories, and discover the joy that comes with immersing yourself in the wonders of Northern Sweden's winter paradise.
