How to : Shoe charms

Adorning our accessories with even more accessories is basically the concept of charm bracelets, and now people are starting to bling up their footwear. Its not a new things since we have seen lace trinkets on laces and crocs for a while now but this trend is taking it to a whole new level.

The contrast between the utility of the trainer with the delicate and intricacy of the pearls creates a satisfying result where trainers and sports shoes take on a whole new level of 'girliness'.

Some creators have added bling in a more professional method using needle and thread and even co-ordinating the laces, the result is almost a brand new shoe, using the original one as a base.

However, if you are not so crafty you can achieve the same impactful look using the laces as a fixing point for DIY shop bought trinkets, like this one below.

Steps to customise your shoes

1) pick the shoes, give them a clean

2) look for suitable fixing points

3) select the amount and style of trinkets you want to attach

4) Start at the top of the shoe and just start attaching the trinkets, consider also replacing the shoelaces.

5) Remove the charms occasionally and clean so they stay nice and sparkly. Don't wear them out in dirty places

If you are not the pearl and lace kind of girly, don't worry, shoe charms can also be more graphic and bold like these once above gustafwestman (instagram) who has an amazing bold colour block mid-century style aesthetic (that i love)

And if you are more of a goth or punk person, then you can always go for the single statement pieces like this one above on the doc martens boots - a great use of the pull tag at the back of the shoe. Leaving the front of the shoe plain (or not) and the party at the back of the shoe. (like a mullet hairstyle)

A lot of women love a pair of embellished trainers as part of their wedding outfit. Whether it be for the actual ceremony itself or for the after party / receiption, you can't go wrong with a pair of embellished wedding trainers. What a cute and special souvenir of the day!

You can express whatever vibe you want playing around with the placement, the size and colours of the embellishments on your shoes. The best things yet is that the attachments mean you can also use these items on charm bracelets and necklaces, so girl maths...
