How to style Polkadots from casual to couture

How to style Polkadots from casual to couture

It’s a classic combination that has been used by designers, artists, make up, interiors and film.

Here are some polkadot looks showing a more casual approach from a polka bomber to reverse colour socks

Keeping the outfit monochrome works particularly well.

Changing the background colour to a classic fire engine red keeps the classic look.

Iconic fashionister anna wintour even got into black and white polkadots , bringing them into more formal looks works well with smaller dots on softer fabrics.Using clashing colours and sizes of dots together brings forward a more eccentric look for both men’s and women’s fashion.

Using the polka dots as an accent detail such as on the tights as seen above or changing up the colours and textures brings a highly feminine look.

Yayoi Kusama’s Pumpkin dot to dot veggie has been seen as a metaphor for obliteration. The intensity of the spacing of the dots and the size of the dots all contribute to the intense feelings p that these artworks create.

Using the polka dots like a texture mixed together with other patterns and textures creates a collage effect where we almost see an optical illusion of varying angled dots. This mixing of colours give the polka dots a very contemporary look.

Dont be scared of polkadots, i used to think it was only really associated with retro 1950s cinched waist halter neck dresses now as you can see from these examples in the mood boards i created, polka dots can cross product area, era and wearers can vary from sports casual to couture.
