Who doesn't love a nostalgic toy that takes them back to their childhood. Now with online shopping and a new move towards sustainability, you can find your favourite toys on websites such as vinted and ebay. Ebay now have moved towards a no-fee model so you can list items to sell to make a bit of extra money. Whats even better, is that as a buyer you can find items that you never dreamed of, at prices that are affordable.
Here are some of my favourite finds on vinted. I have been researching these kinds of items for making my bag charm bunches which you can see here.
From McDonald Happy Meal items all the way back to the 80s and 90s through to toys from Kinder Eggs and other fast food joints, digging around under the cloak of the night (when the kids have gone to bed) has never been so easy (and addictive)
Even toys that i didn't know about as i grew up in australia have caught my attention. Mostly due to the primary colours and slightly wonky design.
The graphics of these party bags above feed right into my addiction to clowncore, and i stay awake dreaming of a use for them, but if i did purchase these bags i would probably end up just keeping them in their original packaging and staring at them. Or maybe putting them in a box up on the shelf never to be seen again.
There is something so charming and eye catching about these little plastic people maybe they were collectables back in the 80s or 90s, I am not sure what i would do with them, but i definitely would love to incorporate these items in a bag charm or two.
The above picture is one of the bag charms that i designed and put together that you can purchase through my website Goodordering under the Bag Charm Bunches section. They are one-off creations that feed into my lack of attention and desire to be creative even within the constraints of owning a bag company.
I recently went to a car boot sale and found charm keyrings like the ones above and rummaging through a box of retro / vintage keyrings was definitely the highlight of my day.
These sesame street characters again just remind me of after school television sessions where we would be fighting over what to watch. These days both of my kids have their own ipads and are watching different things, no negotiation needed like i had to do when i was a kid with my 3 brothers!
And who doesn't love a smurf? these are McDonald's happy meal gifts. Last night i found out that there are whole reddit posts about the schedule of mcdonald's happy meal gifts and i didn't realise that there are some serious collectors of these out there. I would be very unhealthy if i developed this addiction as i hate waste and would happily east 10 cheese burgers to collect the whole set!
The only problem with vinted is the steep shipping fees. If you purchase a one off item you may end up paying more for shipping that the item itself, but sometimes this is worth it. If the seller has some cool stuff you can put together a bundle to save on shipping and make a deal with the seller which i have done and highly recommend. If a seller has something you like there is a high chance they will have other items you also want too!
And also with vinted you can keep your 'balance' on the app so you can sell things to wholeheartedly justify buying other things, thus making vinted the ideal app for bartering where essentially you are just swapping your tat for other people's tatt which i think is a pretty good deal!
Obviously vinted also has clothing and shoes and accessories but lately i have been more drawn towards the nostalgic vintage toys, which i will definitely continue to purchase and peruse late at night when i don't want to go to sleep!
So i'm hoping that the prices stay reasonable on Vinted, and if they do, they will definitely have my business!!
